2 Thai Recipes with Lettuce to Try at Home

Nowadays people have the opportunity to learn a lot about other nations national dishes and to try them themselves. People also try to experiment with different recipes and to change them a little bit. The main part of the original recipe remains, but a new twist is added.

And this can make a recipe slightly different, but still very much delicious. Today we decided to show you a couple of Thai recipes with a slight twist to them. You can easily find the ingredients in your local shop and you can try the recipes at home. So here they are!

#1Thai Chicken Salad


1 chicken breast
3 heads of romaine lettuce
1 yellow bell pepper
2 tablespoons of fish sauce
2 tablespoons of lime juice
2 teaspoons of sugar
½ inch of grated ginger
1 clove of grated garlic
1 red chili
2 shallots
½ cup of chopped peanuts

Step 1

First you need to wash the lettuces and the bell pepper. Then get the first lettuce and remove the thick part of the stem. Cut the leaves into horizontal pieces which can be a couple of centimeters wide. Get a big bowl and put the lettuce pieces in it. Cut the other two lettuces as well.

Then get the bell pepper and cut it in two halves vertically. Then remove the inside part with the seeds from the two halves and cut the rest of the bell pepper into lines. When you are done with this, put the bell pepper pieces into the big bowl with the lettuce.

Step 2

Now you need to prepare the dressing for the salad. Get a small bowl and mix in it the fish sauce, the lime juice, the teaspoons of sugar, the grated ginger, and the grated garlic. Then you need to chop the chili thinly and to add it into the same bowl. Mix the ingredients in the bowl a little and leave it for some time in the fridge.

Step 3

While you are waiting for the dressing to get ready, you can move on to preparing the chicken breast. First you need to season it with some salt and black pepper on each side.

Then you need to head a pan with some olive oil on the bottom and to cook the chicken breast on both sides until it gets some golden brown crust. When the chicken breast is ready, you can remove it from the pan and cut it into horizontal pieces.

Step 4

Now you need to take the dressing out of the fridge. Pour it on top of the salad with the romaine lettuce and the bell pepper. Then add the pieces of chicken breast. Mix all these ingredients well together. And voila, the salad is ready! You can serve it.

#2 Lettuce Cups ThaiSalad


1 lettuce
¼ cup of mint
¼ cup of basil
¼ cup of red onion
¼ cup of cilantro
1 and ½ tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of lime juice
5 Thai chilies
2 tablespoons and 1 teaspoon of fish sauce
1 tablespoon of water
1 tablespoon of oil
4 cloves of garlic
¾ pound of ground pork
1 teaspoon of sugar
½ teaspoon of soy sauce
salt to taste
black pepper to taste


Step 1

First you need to get a bowl and mix in it the sugar and the lime juice. Then get 3 Thai chilies and chop them thinly. Add the pieces into the bowl with the other two ingredients. Then add 2 of the tablespoons of fish sauce and the tablespoon of water. Whisk these ingredients well. Leave the mixture aside for now.

Step 2

Now you need to get a pan and heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in it. Add the garlic cloves into the pan and do not forget to cut them in some pieces beforehand. Stir-fry the garlic a little. Then add the ground pork into the pan. Mix it with the garlic cloves and stir fry the mixture a little.

Step 3

Add the1 teaspoon of sugar into the pan and 1 teaspoon of fish sauce. Add also the soy sauce and the remaining two Thai chilies into the pan. Mix the ingredients well and then season them with some salt and black pepper to your taste. Stir the mixture some more.

Step 4

Add the mint leaves, the basil, the cilantro and the red onion. You need to cut in pieces the onion. You can dice it if you prefer it to be less visible. You also may cut the herbal leaves into some pieces as well. Continue cooking the mixture for some more time by stirring it. Then take the pan off the hotplate.

Step 5

Now you need to wash the lettuce and get a leaf from it. Put it in a plate. Then get a couple of tablespoons of the ground pork mixture and put it on top of the leaf. Then get a couple of tablespoons of the sauce and pour it on top of the ground pork mixture on the leaf. Do the same with the remaining leaves.

And voila, your lettuce cups are ready! Enjoy your meals!
