Several months ago I decided that I want to learn how to cook. Of course, I started with something easy like soups and salad and, for now, I am very pleased with my results and I definitely want to continue cooking. I prefer preparing salads and really like to experiment with tastes and unusual combinations of foods and dressings.
Dressings play a great role in the great salad because they are the thing that give the salad a different and unique taste – and that‘s why I try to make my dressings at home rather than buy them ready from the local store. Now I am going to share with you 5 dressing recipes that you can easily make at home and store in the fridge for the right occasion (or salad).
Honey mustard dressing
Let‘s start with something easy. For this dressing you‘ll need 1 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1/3 cup honey, 2/3 cup vegetable oil, 1 tsp white vinegar , 1 teaspoon minced onion flakes, 2 tsp chopped fresh parsley and 2 tsp yellow mustard. Whisk everything together until you think your dressing is ready.
Blueberry vinaigrette dressing
This one is more unusual, but, as I said, I like to experiment and mix different tastes in my dishes. To make a blueberry vinaigrette dressing, you have to blend together 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 2 tsp orange marmalade, 2 teaspoons lemon juice, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard and 1/4 teaspoon salt. You can take some blueberries and decorate your salad with them along with the dressing – it‘s up to you.
Pineapple orange dressing
Again, a more unusual, but extremely delicious dressing. For this one you have to blend all the ingredients together until you have a smooth mixture – 1/2 cup fresh pineapple chunks, 1 (11-ounce) can mandarin oranges, 2 tsp chopped fresh parsley or 2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes, 2 tsp fresh lemon or lime juice, 2 tsp honey, 1 tsp vegetable oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. This dressing goes well with any chicken meal you have decided to prepare.
Homemade house dressing
This one is more traditional or, at least, don‘t have any fruits in it. Mix 3/4 cup cottage cheese, 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, 1 chopped green onion in the blender and serve on a traditional green salad for the perfect taste.
Everyone should know how to prepare the basic vinaigrette dressing! this dressing you can out on basically everything so it‘s very important to have it in you cookbook. Put 1 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup white vinegar, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper in a bowl and whisk. Serve it cold for best results.
