There are a lot of people who are not big fans of vegetables because their first thought when they hear that some kind of food is healthy is that it is not delicious. Well, since we absolutely do not believe in this, we have decided to show you that vegetables could be really delicious if you prepare them in the right way. Today we have prepared for you a couple of dinner recipes with broccoli. Check them out!
Beef and Broccoli
2 pounds of sirloin steak
1 head of broccoli
1 cup of beef broth
½ cup of soy sauce
1 tablespoon of sesame oil
4 cloves of minced garlic
¼ cup of brown sugar
¼ cup of cornstarch
¼ cup of water
salt to taste
pepper to taste
First you need to slice the sirloin steak into pieces big enough for a couple of bites. Then if you like you may season them with some salt and pepper, but you may leave this for later because it may become too salty in the end.
Then get a big pot and pour in it the beef broth, the soy sauce, and the sesame oil. You may stir them a little. Then add the minced garlic and the brown sugar and again stir all the ingredients. Once the brown sugar has melted, add the pieces of sirloin steak into the pot. Cook the dish at low temperature for 4 hours.
Meanwhile you could cut the broccoli head into pieces. Then mix the cornstarch with the ¼ cup of water in a bowl. Stir them well together. When the 4 hours of cooking the dish pass, add the cornstarch mixture into the pot and the pieces of broccoli. Mix them well together. Continue cooking the dish for 30 more minutes at low temperature as well. When the time is up, the dish would be ready. You could serve it while it is still warm with some white cooked rice as a side dish. And you are done!
The next recipe would appeal to those of you who like to try different cooking techniques, or simply to try recipes they are not used to. This broccoli balls recipe is just the thing they need.
12 ounces of broccoli
2/3 cup of breadcrumbs
¼ cup of chopped onions
2/3 cup of cheddar cheese
2 minced cloves of garlic
salt to taste
hot sauce (optional)
The first thing you need to do is to boil the broccoli. Boil some salted water in a pan. Once it starts boiling add the broccoli. Boil them for about two minutes and then remove them from the water. Put them on a cutting board and chop them really thinly.
Once the broccoli are chopped, put them in a big bowl and then add the egg. You need to whisk it separately from the broccoli beforehand. Then add into the bowl the breadcrumbs and the chopped onion. Then add the cheddar cheese and the garlic gloves.
Season the ingredients with some salt to your taste and if you like spicy food you may also add some hot sauce to your taste. Once all the ingredients are in the bowl, mix them well with a big spoon. Then put the bowl in the fridge for an hour or so to chill.
Once the broccoli mixture has chilled, get it out of the fridge and make it into balls which need to be as big as your handful.Get a baking tin and line it with baking paper. Then put the broccoli balls on the tin leaving some space between them. Bake the balls for 16-18 minutes at 200 0C. An important thing you need to do is to flip the balls halfway through. And this is it. You could serve the balls as appetizers.
