Thanksgiving is one of the holidays when people gather and have lunch or dinner together. It is a family holiday during which a lot of food is prepared.
People often have different kinds of dishes, sometimes they have separate dishes for the different family members according to their tastes and preferences. As a result a lot is food is cooked, but also a lot of it is left over after the holiday.
People are tired of having the same kind of food over and over again and that is why they tend not to eat the leftovers from the holiday dishes and move on to having something else.
Since it is not good to throw out food and there are plenty of other dishes to make with the food that is left over after Thanksgiving, we have prepared for you today a couple of recipes with ingredients that are left over after Thanksgiving. Maybe you could try them out at home and find a delicious and useful purpose of Thanksgiving leftovers.
#1 Breakfast Casserole
1 cup of shredded cooked turkey
3 cups of leftover stuffing
½ cup of carrots
1/3 cup of green onions
1 cup of cheddar cheese
salt to taste
black pepper to taste
First you need to get the eggs and break them in a big bowl. Then you need to whisk them until they all become a homogeneous liquid-y mixture. After you have whisked the eggs, you need to add the shredded cooked turkey into the big bowl with the eggs and stir the two ingredients a little.
Add the carrots which need to be cut into small cubes beforehand and then add the green onions which need to be chopped beforehand as well. Add the cheddar cheese into the big bowl and mix all the ingredients in it well.
When you have finished with stirring, add some salt and black pepper to taste and continue stirring the ingredients in the bowl to season them equally.
The next thing you need to do is to get a deep baking tin. Apply some cooking oil on the bottom of it and spread it evenly on the surface. Then get the leftover stuffing and apply it on the bottom of the tin. Put it evenly on the bottom of the tin and you may push it a little bit. Then get the turkey mixture and pour it on top of the stuffing in the tin. Apply it evenly everywhere.
And then you need to bake the dish in the oven for 45 minutes at 1800 C. After this time passes, take the dish out of the oven. You can let it cool down for some time and then it will be ready to be served. Enjoy!
#2 Shepherd’s Pie
3 cups of turkey
1 cup of peas
1 cup of mushrooms
1 cup of diced carrots
1 cup of diced onion
1 cup of gravy
½ cup of heavy cream
2 tablespoons of butter
½ teaspoon of dry parsley
½ teaspoon of thyme
¼ teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon of black pepper
First you need to prepare all the ingredients and cut some of them. Get a deep pan and heat the butter in it. When it is completely melted add the diced onions and carrots. Mix them together and cook them for a couple of minutes until the onions get slightly fried.
Then get the mushrooms, wash them and cut them into small pieces. Add them into the pan and after that add the peas. Mix all the ingredients in the pan well. Finally, add the pieces of cooked turkey and season the mixture with salt, black pepper, parsley, and thyme.
Stir the mixture well to season it evenly and then pour in the pan the gravy and the heavy cream. Stir the mixture well once again and cook it for a couple of more minutes. Take the pan off the hotplate.
Now get a pot for a shepherd’s pie. Put the whole turkey mixture into the pot. Then add some mashed potatoes on top of it, to close the stuffing inside. It is preferable to spray some olive oil on the top layer of the mashed potatoes.
Finally, you need to bake the dish in the oven at 2200 C for 10-15 minutes. When the time passes, you can take it out of the oven and serve it. Enjoy!
