#1 How to slice onion without crying

Onions are used in a lot of dishes. They add a nice touch to them. But there is still one big problem with them – they make a lot of people cry when they slice them. If you want to find a solution to this irritating onion-slicing effect, then you have just found it.

The only thing that you need to do is to put the onion in the freezer for about 15 minutes before you start cooking. The low temperature will “freeze” the tear-causing ability of the onion. And voila, no more tears while chopping, or slicing onions.

#2 Peel eggs like a pro

The other trick we are going to show you is about peeling boiled eggs. Sometimes when the eggs are not over-boiled, they are hard to peel. Other times when they are fresh, they are also hard to peel. And this can be quite annoying, not to mention that you are throwing away some egg whites with the peels. So, here is a way you could prevent this from happening.

What you need to do is to put a slice of lemon into the pan with boiling eggs. The lemon water will help you peel the boiled eggs more easily later. If you do not have a lemon within your reach, you may add ½ a spoon of baking soda in the water and this will have the same effect.

#3 No eggs

There are some recipes which can be turned into vegan ones easily by substituting some of the diary products with other ingredients. Or if you are not vegan, but you do not have any eggs at a time when you want to cook some scones, or buns, you could try this little trick. Use bananas instead of eggs.

If you are cooking some sweet dough, for example, add half a banana instead 1 egg. If the recipe is with two eggs, then simply add a whole banana. This will do the same job and will make the scones as delicious as if they were with eggs instead.

#4 Learn how to tell the difference between good and bad peppers

The next trick you are going to learn is all about peppers. If you like them, you have probably included them in different dishes and that is when you notice that some peppers taste better than others. So, how to tell which peppers are good and which ones – not so good.

When you are buying bell peppers, look at the bottom and you will see a few bumps. The bell peppers which are “female” ones have 4 bumps, while the “male” ones have 3. And that is what you need to know, the “female” bell peppers taste better, so try to buy only such ones and you will see that all of them will be delicious.

#5 Peel garlic fast

Another cooking difficulty could be the peeling of garlic. The peels are so thin that it is often difficult to peel them easily. Sometimes you may have to peel not only the peels, but even some of the garlic and this could be not only annoying, but some of it goes to waste. That is why you may try this trick if you want to peel garlic easily.

Heat it in a microwave for 15 seconds, not more. This will immediately make the garlic easier to peel. Try it out yourselves. And since we have started talking about easier ways to peel foods, here is the next trick.

#6 Peel potatoes fast

Some potatoes are quite difficult to peel after you boil them. If you have also had such difficulties, then try this trick. Before you start boiling the potatoes, make a small cut along the center of it. This way the boiling water will have a chance to reach the flesh of the potato. Then after you boil the potatoes, put them in some cold water – this will also help you peel them off easily later. And then, when they have cooled down a little, feel them off with your hands. You will see that the peels will fall extremely easy.
