We all know how to make a classic ponytail – it has been the first hairstyle we’ve ever mastered, our survivor during the hot summer days at the beach and our companion for the lazy Sunday afternoons spent on the couch. We’ve been through a lot with our ponytails. Yet, we all know that without the proper tips and tricks, it is almost impossible to achieve the perfect textured ponytail look. If you want to know how to add this ‘wow’ effect to your hairstyle, then scroll down and see how!
Step 1: Divide your crown from the rest of your hair.
Step 2: Then, place a small sponge underneath the section and pin it in place with enough bobby pins. This sponge will add that extra volume without too much struggles. Next, grab your comb and give the hair a little lift by backcombing at the crown. Simply hold a section of your hair straight upward, place the comb in the roots and apply firm brush strokes downward to the scalp. Use hairspray to secure the volume. Repeat the procedure with the next hair section until you’ve created an extra volume in the roots.
Step 3: Smooth the crown with your comb by brushing it towards the back. Use a bobby pin to pin the section in place.
Step 4: Pull your hair back into a high ponytail and secure it with a clear rubber band. Once you have put your hair in a high ponytail, place two bobby pins vertically into your ponytail holder to give it a little extra lift. Tease your ponytail by applying firm brush strokes towards the base of the ponytail. Use hairspray to secure the volume. Repeat the procedure with the next small sections of hair.
If you want to hide the elastic, grab a small piece of hair underneath your ponytail and tightly wrap it around the rubber band. When you have covered the hair elastic, pin the end of the hair strand underneath your ponytail with a bobby pin roughly the same colour as your hair. As a final touch, add additional light hairspray all over your hairstyle to keep the volume in place longer.
