Forget the champagne toasts and casual dates. We girls know that this time of year is really all about getting glammed up and hitting the town in our sparkly finest. Well, whatever the occasion is, we always want to look our best. This is why we have outlined each step of this absolutely gorgeous red carpet-ready updo with a braid. You don’t need to be a pro at making red carpet hairstyles as everything is explained in a simple, straightforward way. Now let’s get started!

For this tutorial, you will need a brush, rubber bands, a long hair pad for volume, light hold hairspray and a smoothing spray.

Step 1: Brush your locks through to ensure they are smooth and free from tangles and then gather the hair into a tight, high ponytail. To hide the elastic, wrap a strand of hair around the band and use a bobby pin to secure the hair piece. Apply a smoothing gel or spray to make the ponytail flawless.

Step 2: To create a fuller effect, use a long hair pad. This will create an extra volume.

Step 3: Place the hair pad underneath the base of the pony and secure with enough bobby pins to keep it in place.

Step 4: Now, divide the ponytail and prepare for braiding.

Step 5: Start braiding the ponytail into a traditional three-strand braid above the hair pad. Make sure you cover it all over.

Step 6: When you reach the end of the ponytail, secure the braid with a clear rubber band.

Step 7: Loop the secured end underneath the braided section and pin it in place.

Step 8: Gently loosen the braid with your fingertips. If the sides of the braided section are too loose, use some bobby pins for this purpose.

Step 9: Finish and secure the hair with a light holding spray.
