It is quite debatable if spicy foods are healthy or not. They are good for some of your body organs and not so good for others. In the end, one can have spicy food every now and again but certainly not too often.
And since we kind of like spicy foods, we have prepared a couple of main course recipes for those of you who do not mind to spice up their lives from time to time. Here are the recipes!
#1 Spicy Chicken with Tomatoes and Coconut Milk
3 pounds of chicken
1 and ¼ cups of tomato puree
1 cup of coconut milk
1 cup of chicken stock
3 cloves of garlic
1 tablespoon of ginger
2 tablespoons of olive oil
salt to taste
black pepper to taste
First you need to cut the chicken. The pieces may be big, you can leave the legs and the breasts only if you like. It is up to you. You also need to chop the garlic cloves, to dice the onion, and to cut the jalapenos into small pieces.
Then you need to season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper to your own choice. Make sure you do not make it too salty. You can add extra salt after that. Apply the spices evenly on each side of the chicken.
Now get a pot and heat the olive oil in it. Add the chicken pieces on the bottom of the pot and stir-fry them until they turn golden-brownish. Then flip them round and stir-fry the other side of the chicken.
When the other side turns golden-brownish as well, you need to remove the chicken pieces from the pot but keep the pot with the olive oil on the hotplate.
Now add the chopped garlic into the sizzling olive oil in the pot. Then add the ginger, the jalapeno pieces and the onion pieces. Mix everything well with a big wooden spoon. After that you need to add the tomato puree and the coconut milk. Then pour in the pot the chicken stock and stir the whole mixture well.
Then add the half-cooked chicken pieces back into the pot. Put the lid on the pot and let the dish simmer for 45-60 minutes. When this time is up, the dish will be ready to be served.
You can serve a piece of chicken garnished with cooked rice. You can also pour some sauce on top of the chicken or even the rice if you like. And voila! The meal is ready!
#2 Spicy Chicken Wings with Mango
1 pound of chicken wings
¼ cup of honey
¼ cup of apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons of lime juice
2 garlic cloves
½ teaspoon of paprika
½ cup of flour
½ teaspoon of chili powder
½ teaspoon of garlic powder
½ teaspoon of black pepper
½ teaspoon of salt
First you need to get a big bowl. Pour in it the flour. Then add the chili powder, the garlic powder, the pepper, and the salt. Using a fork or some spoon, mix the ingredients in the bowl well so it all turns into a mixture. Then get a chicken wing and roll it into the bowl. Then do the same with the rest of the wings.
Now get a baking tin and line it with baking paper. Put all the chicken wings on the tin leaving some space between them. Then bake them in the oven for 45 minutes at 2200 C. You also should not forget to flip the wings halfway through. When the time passes, remove the tin from the oven.
You will now need a blender. Get the mango and chop it into pieces. Then cut the habaneros as well. Put the mango and the habanero pieces into the blender. Add the garlic cloves as well and sprinkle them with the paprika. Finally, you need to add the apple cider vinegar and the lemon juice into the blender. Blend the ingredients until they turn into puree.
Now get a pan. Heat it and pour in it the honey. Then add the mango blended mixture in it as well. Mix them together and cook them by stirring often. Let the mixture sizzle for a couple of minutes and then take the pan off the hotplate.
Now you need to pour the mango and honey mixture into a big bowl. Get the chicken wings and roll them in the mixture inside the bowl. Then get a baking tin and line it with baking paper once again. Put the chicken wings on top of it with some space between them.
Then you need to bake them for 8-10 minutes at 2300 C. After that you need to remove them from the oven and you can serve them. This recipe is also less caloric compared to the recipes which involve frying the wings.
