The red lip, contouring, and the cat eye – all of these classic makeup looks hold a special place in our hearts. However, none of them make us feel as bold and brazen as the timeless smoky eye. For decades, this look has been embraced and utilized for those moments we need to give our faces some sultry oomph. It sounds too good to be true, right? Well, the reality is that perfecting the smoky eye look takes practice and, above all, top tips and tricks. Not to worry! We are here to help you master the look with the top tips from experts. Let’s get started!

Step 1: For a smoky eye, moisturize the area first, so when you line the lid with a pencil it will smudge naturally. Use a medium-size round brush to apply charcoal brown powder in an arch shape just above the crease of the lid. Then blend down to the lash line, creating a soft eyeliner flick with the shadow.

Step 2: Take your makeup brush and add black shadow to the inner and outer corner of your lid. Do not be afraid to go bold here. If needed, erase any shadow mistakes without ruining your makeup. To do so, simply dip a cotton swab in concealer, and then skim it over the skin. The concealer will pick up shadow without smudging.

Step 3: Grab the medium-sized round brush and blend it towards the crease.

Step 4:  With a smaller, firm-bristle brush, press a gold shade to the centre of the lid.  Apply a shimmer powder to the inner corners of the eyes to lighten the overall effect.

Step 5: Trace the lower lash line with a soft black pencil, and then gently smudge with your fingertip.

Step 6: Pile on mascara and add your favourite false eyelashes.
