A hike in the mountains
Even if you’re not sworn hikers, you can always choose a simpler route that is suitable for walking, even for children. Check in advance where you can go and see if there is a working lift (the kids are always happy to ride it). During the walk, create any games that will help your child get to know nature. For example, collect leaves from different trees. Make up your own competition of who will find and collect more different species. Then, as you go along and collect them, you can stick them in a notebook and write what leaf of what tree it is. Grab your binoculars and watch the birds and animals in the forest, telling your child about them. What to bring with you: water, hat, sun cream, snack, insect preparation. Do not forget comfortable shoes and a raincoat if by chance it rains.
The picnic is a favorite thing to do during a weekend for the warm days for both children and adults. Research where is the nearest picnic place and if there is a stream or river, that would be even better. There are already many places for such a purpose, with benches and tables prepared for outdoor grill and fun. If there aren’t any grill stations already there, many places already sell disposable ones. Of course, sandwiches and fruit can do a perfect job, too. Besides the food, think about some fun games. A ball, frisbee, badminton, for example, are a great way to stir into action until it is time to eat. What to bring: blankets, food and water, sunscreen. What to remember: if you light a fire, do it by the rules and make sure you have put it out when leaving. Bring also bags in which to collect all food scraps and garbage.
Explore the city
If you decide not to go out of town, and you are fed up with a walk in the nearby park, why not organize a tour of the city. During weekends, all the museums usually work, so this should not be a problem. You are the one who best knows your children so you know what they would have loved to see and go to. Prepare and tell them about the places which you visit. It will be interesting for yourself, too. Draw your route, actually your whole tour, map its interesting buildings and attractions, visit a museum or gallery. Do not, however, do very ambitious plans and make the walk consistent with average age of the froup you are with. If you see that it was enjoyable and interesting, you can repeat next weekend. What to check first: opening hours of museums and entry prices, look for any groupon deals.
A day for exercise is a great way to recharge for the next week. It is also a great way to show your child how important it is to play sports. Think of something you love to do, but do it with the whole family – biking or skating, swimming, tennis, football, horse riding. And why not try a little of everything.
