There are different sleeping positions and people find it comfortable to sleep in one position or another. The most popular sleeping positions are on one’s back, on the side, or on one’s stomach. What is more, these positions that people feel comfortable sleeping in, can reveal a lot about one’s personality.

However, as in every other thing in the world, different sleeping positions have some side effect. This means that some of them may not be good for your health. Today we are going to tell which are these side effects and if you want to avoid them, then you need to change your sleeping position. So, check them out!

#1 Sleeping on your stomach

This is a favorite sleeping position to a lot of people, but, of course, there are some side effects to it. When you sleep on your stomach, you put your face on your pillow, and sometimes even press it against it. This means that you do not allow your facial skin to breath and the contact with the pillowcase may also cause the spreading of bacteria and some germs. And this can lead to inflammations and flaring up of zits.

Another side effect of sleeping on your stomach is that you place your neck in an unnatural position. It puts pressure on your neck and on your back as well. This may lead to some health problems in the future connected with backache. So, be careful about this sleeping position and change it from time to time. This will reduce the pressure from your neck and back a little.

#2 Sleeping on one side

The next sleeping position in the list is suitable for people who tend to snore. As you probably know this is a very common problem nowadays and not only overweight men snore. One of the ways to diminish the snoring is to sleep on one side.

However, this does not mean that there are no side effects to this sleeping position as well. This may have some bad effects on your spine and your digestive system.

Sleeping on your right side, for example, may lead to some malfunction of your digestive system and some spinal deformation even. So, the best solution is to sleep on your left side and from time to time to change your sleeping position as well.

#3 Sleeping on your back

The next sleeping position is not the one that most people prefer, but it is probably the one that is the best for a person’s health. This sleeping position causes no health problems to your body like the other sleeping positions, but, of course, has some disadvantages as well.

First of all, it makes snoring worse and can lead to some inconvenience to the person sleeping next to you. Besides, there are a lot of people who simply do not feel comfortable sleeping in this position and that is why they cannot even go to sleep if they are lying on their back.

#4 Which the best sleeping positions are

Since we mentioned the side effects of the sleeping positions, now it is time to tell you which are the two sleeping positions that are best for your health. As you probably found out already, it would be best if you change your sleeping positions from time to time. And the two that you need to sleep in are on your back and on your left side.

As we mentioned earlier, sleeping on your back is the best position for your spine and back because it does not lead to any distortions of your bones. And sleeping on your left side has a positive effect on your digestive system. This is because your stomach is on your left side and the gastric juices in it will not be mixed and this will lead to the good functioning of your stomach the next day.

Another thing that you should do when you are sleeping in either of the two sleeping positions is to have two pillows – one for your head and one for your legs. This way both your neck and legs will have support. Do not choose a pillow that too big for you because the high support can also lead to some pain in the neck, literally.

As for the pillow for your legs, you will notice that the support from it will help your legs relax better. That is why you should use a pillow both when you sleep on your back and on your left side. And the next thing you should do is to enjoy your good night sleep!
